The big day arrived and Pacifica Institute’s Northwest chapter located in Bellevue, WA, was inaugurated with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 21, 2015. The ceremony saw the gracious attendance of Congressman Adam Smith, representing Washington State’s 9th district, Bellevue Mayor Claudia Balducci, and the director of Earth Ministry Jessie Dye, Pacifica Institute President Ibrahim Barlas along with the local people of various nationals and professions.

The occasion kicked off with guests networking and proceeded with the dignitaries cutting the ribbon that marked the official opening of the brand new chapter. The institute’s Northwest director Tezcan Inanlar took the floor to deliver his address welcoming the guests and briefing them on the vision and mission of Pacifica Institute in general and the newly chapter in particular. A promotional video clip, featuring the institute’s activities to date across the West Coast since its establishment in 2003, followed Mr. Inanlar’s address. Also, the President Ibrahim Barlas addressed the guests to thank and welcome them to such a momentous occasion on behalf of his entire Northwest staff and volunteers.

Next, the congressman Adam Smith gave his remarks that underscored the world’s immediate need for getting to know and understanding each other. Similarly, the mayor Balducci said she is hopeful about the chapter’s potential to contribute to enhance the ever-existing diversity in Bellevue and the greater Seattle area alike. She further expressed her pleasure over particularly having the chapter in her city. Lastly, Jessie Dye of the local Earth Ministry shared her words on the promising chapter and the institute’s well-deserved recognition in interfaith and intercultural dialogue.

The event continued with the guests conversing over the traditional Turkish lunch and mingling with the institute officials and volunteers before heading for home.
