Dr. Christopher Karadjov

Dr. Karadjov joined the Journalism Department at California State University, Long Beach, in August 2005. He teaches Global News Media, Reporting and Information Gathering, Investigative Reporting, Mass Communication Research Methods, Mass Communication Theory, and continues his involvement with studying Eastern European media through lectures, grants, conference papers and publications. A particular interest of Karadjov’s are comparative studies that juxtapose journalism practices and media influences in Eastern Europe with those in other parts of the world.

Karadjov is actively involved in the International Communication Association, especially its Journalism Interest Group; he is a member of AEJMC and several other professional organizations, including American Association for Public Opinion Research, which reflects his interest in surveys and political communication.

Dr. Heloiza Herscovitz

Dr. Heloiza Golbspan Herscovitz is a trilingual (English, Portuguese, Spanish) journalism professor with transnational professional and academic experience. She has a Ph.D. from University of Florida, and has taught at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at California State University, Long Beach since 2006. Former head of the International Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Herscovitz is currently vice-chair of CoD, the Committee of Divisions in charge of organizing AEJMC’s annual conference. In addition, she is a member of AEJMC Board of Directors. This U.S.- based organization comprises almost 4,000 educators and researchers from all over the world.

Dr. Melissa Wall

Professor Wall is the editor of the book, “Citizen Journalism: Valuable, Useless or Dangerous.” Her research focuses on international news/participatory media such as YouTube, Flickr, and blogs and has been published in journals such as New Media & Society; Journalism; Media, Culture and Society; Journalism Studies; Journal of Communication Inquiry; Journalism Practice; International Communication Gazette; International Journal of Communication; Popular Communication; Rhodes Journalism Review; Journal of Development Communication; Javnost: The Public; Journal of Middle Eastern Media.

Prof Wall is the creator of the Pop-Up Newsroom, a temporary, virtual newsroom for citizen and student journalists.  Pop-Up Newsroom has collaborated with universities around the world to produce collective coverage, including covering global poverty with university journalism programs in the UK, India and Taiwan.
