On April 24th, the founders of Miss Understanding, Sondos and Michal visited, Pacifica Institute Orange County branch to talk about the growth of Muslim-Christian relations. “We’re here to specifically discuss the problems that affect Muslims and Christians alike” Sondos stated and after a brief introduction to our speakers, the program began.
The two spoke about Miss Understanding, a blog that they had begun together to share their Muslim-Christian relationship with the world The two now hold events to further connect Muslims and Christians, and to unhinge any fears or prejudices that they might have of one another.
They spoke of relationships between Muslims and Christians- which seem impossible according to the media. They spoke of how the media portrayed Muslims, but in the biggest instance, only a few blocks away from where ISIS was causing terror, there were Muslims and Christians working together in hospitals to save lives. How In places where Christians are being singled out by ISIS by having signs drawn on their doors, Muslims draw signs on their own doors saying that they could not, and would not let their neighbors suffer alone.
Fear is the reason prejudices exist and grow. By stopping the fear before it grows into prejudice and anger we can help create tranquility between Muslims and Christians. The two spoke of how they were trying to build relations between the two religions by holding Interfaith events to build friendships such as their own. explained how once the barrier of fear was down the most unlikeliest of friends between Muslims and Christians would become the closest of friends. throughout their events they have witnessed Christians happily taking Muslims into their homes for dinner on Christmas and Muslims taking into their homes Christians for Ramadan.
Friendship Between Muslims and Christians truly flourishes when allowed to. And through Interfaith events countless lifelong friendships have been formed this just goes to prove that when we eliminate fear and Prejudice the natural thing to do is form friendships and keep peace. To build more friendships it is eminent that we continue trying to build these bonds and destroy fears of one another. Set a this through interface that we shall continue on our long journey to peace.
