We couldn’t reach to my cousin for a week who is living in a three story home near typhoon-hit area. Only yesterday, we were fortunate to learn that they are alive although their house was totally destroyed by the storm.” said one of the Filipino guests, who was obviously very sad, while waiting in the line for lunch and having conversation with his Turkish friend.

On November 19th, Tuesday, Sunnyvale Cultural Center held a luncheon for the benefit of Typhoon Haiyan victims in Philippines.  A nice crowd attended this event for raising funds to help victims of the storm, which left thousands of people displaced from their homes and millions in need of basic necessities like food and water.  Ashura (aka Noah’s pudding) was also served in the lunch menu that was prepared by Pacifica Institute volunteers. The proceedings from the event will be passed to Hizmet Relief, a non-profit relief organization aiming to raise  $50,000 to help the children and families affected by the typhoon disaster.

The participants, most of whom are engineers working in Silicon Valley area, did not only contribute generously to help victims to recover and rebuild their shattered lives, hey also raised their hands for sending out a prayer in their way at the end of the event, wishing that all the people in Philippines feel God’s comfort and derive strength from their faith during these difficult times.
