SOMA MINING DISASTER

Pacifica Institute mourns the victims of the coal mine explosion in Soma, Turkey and expresses its deepest sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones in this mining disaster.

As of the 15th, officials say that 284 workers were killed and scores injured in the blast, which was triggered by an electrical fault deep in the mine. Rescuers worked through the night to reach hundreds of miners still trapped underground. Although 363 miners were rescued, another 150 have not been accounted for. No miner has been brought out alive since early Wednesday.

Anxious relatives of miners still missing have gathered at the site.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the miners and the Turkish nation.

On Noah’s Pudding Night -Ashura-, Saturday, May 17th between 6:30 PM and 10:00 PM, there will be a prayer and condolence vigil at Pacifica Institute in Sunnyvale.

Now it is time to help the families of the victims. Embrace Relief has started a campaign for the families affected by the Soma mining disaster.
