Pacifica Institute members volunteered for the 2015 California Coastal Cleanup Day which was held on September, 19th. This is the State’s largest volunteer event organized by Ocean Conservancy and part of the International Coastal Cleanup. In 2014, more than 1,190,000 pounds of garbage and recycled materials were collected by approximately 67,000 volunteers statewide. In 2015, from 50 sites, Gilroy to Palo Alto, over 1,800 volunteers cleaned more than 75 miles of shoreline and creek by collecting more than 49,000 pounds of garbage and nearly 3,000 pounds of recyclable materials. Pacifica Institute has been supporting this even in the past and will be looking for supporting next events.
