Pacifica Institute and Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph hosted their annual Ramadan Iftar dinner on June 5th 2018. The event took place inside the church where Supervisors Cindy Chavez and Dave Cortese talked about the importance of interfaith dialogue and celebrating each other’s diversities in our community. There was also a small performance of whirling dervishes and call to prayer (adhan) to showcase the importance of faith and spirituality in Muslims. There were about 120 members of the community that joined and celebrated the breaking of the fast with the Muslim members. The dinner was filled with different flavors for the guests to try.

Here is what Sharon L. Miller BSN, Director – Office of Social Ministry at Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph said about the evening:
“ Mahmut,  a wonderful Ramadan celebration. You have done so much to bring people of faith together. You have created a way to build relationships, amongst people who would not normally extend themselves beyond our comfort zone”s. Thank you!!”
