Pacifica volunteers sorting food donations for Feeding America in San Diego

Pacifica Institute volunteers recently joined the Feeding America San Diego (FASD) charity organization’s weekly volunteer project which is food sorting, bagging and boxing food. Feeding America San Diego relies on philanthropic and community support to fund its mission and hunger-relief programs.

The volunteers helped prepare 500 packets of food and 16.5 tons of vegetables to be donated to schools with an overwhelming population of students who struggle with malnutrition. With the assistance of around 8000 volunteers a year, FASD provides weekly aid to a total of 437,000 children, families and elderly in San Diego, where 1 in 5 people are suffering from either hunger or malnutrition. The charity is able to send the food to the needy with donations from charitable residents and volunteers. FASD, which has 200 chapters located across the United States, is able to provide six Meals with every dollar donated due to the help of its volunteers.
