The Youths of Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue and that of Pacifica Institute got together for a Sunday afternoon in celebration of the Passover, the passing of Moses with his people through the Red Sea, the emancipation from slavery and oppression. It was a wonderful experience for children and adults alike. The ladies from both communities joined together in the kitchen, preparing Passover charoset (with grape juice ) and setting the table. The children indulged in putting together a huge spray paint collage. The barbecue was firing up in the patio.

The Jewish and Turkish Muslim community came together under the roof of Prophet Moses, a dearly cherished prophet for both communities. The Passover—the start of a new beginning for Moses and his people—is a fundamental turning point in both religions and cultures. Rabbi Benjamin and Rabbi Julie presented the guests and hosts the Jewish rituals; like leaning to your right on your chair—like a master—as Romans drank their grape juice, dipping parsley in salty water—the green, a symbol of spring and a new beginning and the salty water, a symbol of the tears shed by Moses and his people, carrying the flat bread on one’s shoulder as the people had done, and finally the chanting of prayers special to the day.

Following the prayers, it was finally time to feast on the delicious dishes adorning the table. As the day slowly rolled toward the end, everyone said their goodbyes with the hope of continued friendship
