In observance of International Women’s Day ahead of time, Pacifica Institute’s Seattle branch hosted the screening of the documentary Girl Rising on March 4th, 2017. The documentary tells the stories of nine resilient girls, each from different parts of the world, offering hope and inspiration despite the horrendous injustices and sufferings they went through.
Besides its powerful narration and message, the documentary was highly effective calling on the audience to take action and support the cause, which became obvious in the follow-up discussions. The participants discussed their takeaways from the stories, how they resonated with them and, most importantly, what the role that they play is or should be in the fight against inequalities women are facing around the world. The discussions were highly insightful and productive, engaging the participants intellectually and emotionally.
