{"id":3230,"date":"2014-10-17T17:21:26","date_gmt":"2014-10-18T01:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pacificasv.org\/?p=3230"},"modified":"2016-09-12T20:20:30","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T03:20:30","slug":"pacifica-lectures-with-pastor-bob-mckee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pacificainstitute.org\/bay-area\/2014\/10\/17\/pacifica-lectures-with-pastor-bob-mckee\/","title":{"rendered":"Pacifica Lectures with Pastor Bob McKee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3237 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/pacificasv.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/insert-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"insert\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Pastor Bob McKee, pastor at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sunnyvale for 17 years, spoke at Pacifica Institute Silicon Valley Wednesday night on the <em>12 Steps to Greater Harmony<\/em> where he posed the question:\u00a0 \u201cIn our world that seems addicted to conflict, could these steps have some wisdom in moving to a place of greater harmony in our personal and corporate lives?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based on AA\u2019s <em>12 Steps for Sobriety<\/em>, Pastor McKee explained how <em>12 Steps<\/em> could be used to solve addictions (ie: substance abuse, over eating, smoking, electronics use, etc.), personal problems, or global issues.<\/p>\n<p>Using personal knowledge and experience with <em>12 Steps<\/em>, Bob shared how each step dovetails into the next, and how, with support and faith, we could all become better and more compassionate humans &#8212; first within our own lives, then within our community, and ultimately around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The evening concluded with an elegantly presented buffet of delicious Turkish foods and great conversation around the tables.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For those unfortunate enough to miss Pastor McKee\u2019s presentation, the <em>12 Steps<\/em> are:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We admitted we were powerless over <em>. ( FILL IN THE BLANK)<\/em> \u00a0\u00a0&#8212; \u00a0that our lives had become unmanageable<\/li>\n<li>Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity<\/li>\n<li>Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God <em>as we\u00a0<\/em><em>understood Him<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves<\/li>\n<li>Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs<\/li>\n<li>Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.<\/li>\n<li>Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings<\/li>\n<li>Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all<\/li>\n<li>Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others<\/li>\n<li>Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it<\/li>\n<li>Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, <em>as we understood Him<\/em>, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out<\/li>\n<li>Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-3230 gallery-columns-3
