The panel in Irvine office last year, unfortunately coincided right after the Paris attacks. In the wake of San Bernardino shootings in our recent memory, we are trying to find out with our local, religious and government leaders, what we, as a community can do better to fix this problem.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">In this upcoming Combating Cancer of Extremism panel,\u00a0the\u00a0speakers will be looking for the answer to the question if it is fair to blame a particular religion and the tradition&#8217;s text for the atrocities of violent radicals? The panelists will also be delving the question of what members of each tradition should do to prevent the cancer of extremism in our communities and what the consequences are, if we sit idle and not do anything about it.<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PANELISTS<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Rabbi Sharon Brous, Founding Rabbi of IKAR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2004 Rabbi Brous, Melissa Balaban and a handful of young entrepreneurial Jews set out to build IKAR, a laboratory for bold, imaginative Jewish practice \u2013 which quickly became one of the fastest growing Jewish communities in the country and a model for inspiring Jews from the most marginalized to the most engaged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Since then, Brous has been recognized as one of the nation\u2019s leading rabbis by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/galleries\/2013\/03\/21\/america-s-top-50-rabbis-for-2013-photos.html\">Newsweek\/The Daily Beast<\/a> and among the 50 most influential American Jews by the Forward. In 2013 she topped The Daily Beast\u2019s list, which credited her with reanimating Jewish community and re-energizing prayer at a time of growing disaffection and declining affiliation. In 2013 she blessed President Obama and Vice President Biden at the Inaugural National Prayer Service.\u00a0She sits on the faculty of the <a href=\"http:\/\/hartman.org.il\/NA_Index.asp?Cat_Id=197&amp;Cat_Type=Centers&amp;Title_Cat_Name=Shalom%20Hartman%20Institute%3Cbr%3E%20of%20North%20America\">Hartman Institute-North America<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wexnerfoundation.org\/programs\/wexner-heritage-program\">Wexner Heritage<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebooters.net\/\">REBOOT<\/a>, and is a Senior Fellow at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.auburnseminary.org\/\">Auburn Theological Seminary<\/a>. She serves on the International Council of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nif.org\/\">New Israel Fund<\/a> and rabbinic advisory council to <a href=\"https:\/\/ajws.org\/\">American Jewish World Service.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brous was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2001 and received a Master\u2019s Degree in human rights from Columbia University, where she also received her Bachelor\u2019s Degree.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Edina Lekovic,\u00a0Director of Policy &amp; Programming at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muslim_Public_Affairs_Council\">Muslim Public Affairs Council<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Edina Lekovic frequently acts as a national <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spokesperson\">spokesperson<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Islam_in_the_United_States\">American Muslim<\/a> community to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/News_media\">media<\/a> outlets, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Government\">government<\/a> officials, interfaith leaders, academic institutions, and community organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Edina is one of the founders of Elev8, an arts-based youth program which has a mission to identify, train and develop youth community leadership rooted in awareness, responsibility, and action. Lekovic has made many appearances in the media including <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FoxNews\">FoxNews<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CNN\">CNN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MSNBC\">MSNBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC\">BBC<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_(U.S._TV_channel)\">History Channel<\/a>.\u00a0She has also written for several national newspapers like the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wall_Street_Journal\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington_Times\">Washington Times<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Associated_Press\">Associated Press<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicago_Tribune\">Chicago Tribune<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Los_Angeles_Times\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Mrs Lekovic has a Master\u2019s degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Communication\">Communications<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pepperdine_University\">Pepperdine University<\/a> and a Bachelors Degree from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UCLA\">UCLA<\/a> in American Literature &amp; culture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>Joumana Silyan-Saba,\u00a0City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Joumana Silyan-Saba is a Senior Policy Analyst for the City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission (City HRC).
