Today Pacifica Institute hosted Irvine Valley College President Glenn Roquemore. Before this luncheon forum in Irvine , New Zealand Consul General Rob Taylor and Irvine Mayor Beth Krom were the keynote speakers. Consul General Rob Taylor spoke about Welcoming Diversity as a Path to Peace and Mayor Beth Krom’s topic was How to Create a Balanced Community. Dr Glenn Roquemore’s topic is the Role of Community Colleges in Higher Education.

Dr. Glenn Roquemore is President of Irvine Valley College. Prior to accepting he served in the following administrative assignments at this institution: Interim President, Vice President of Instruction, Interim Vice President of Instruction, Dean of Advanced Technology, Interim Dean of Advanced Technology, Interim Vice President of Student Services, and Chair – School of Physical Sciences and Technologies. He has also served as Professor of Geology. His academic preparation includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Geology, and Geophysics from the University of Nevada , a Master and Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from California State University at Fresno .

Dr Roquemore gave very important statistics of the Community Colleges in California . He said that there are 109 Colleges in California and that the yearly fee in 2006-7 for the California Community Colleges (CCC) is 600 dollars, six times less than the fees of California State Universities (CSU) and 12 times less than the University of California(UC). Undergraduate student enrollment in higher education is 79% to the CCCs, 15% to CSUs and 6% to UCs. Dr Roquemore added that the success rate of the students transferring from the CCs to the UCs and CSUs are higher than the freshman of the UCs and CSUs.
