Ventura County and The World

1st of May is the day when Pacifica Institute hosted Ventura County Supervisor John Flynn. John Flynn has been an instrumental figure in Ventura County since 1975 and still he is actively involved with the community and spreading the word around for what could be best done.

John Flynn is the long time Ventura County Board of Supervisors member, the supervisor of the fifth district in Ventura and represents the most ethnically and racially diverse districts in California He held this position from 1975 to 1977 and from 1981 to the present time.

Mr Flynn was also the Ventura County Assessment Appeals Board Chair from 1981 to 2002, the Seawater Intrusion Committee Board Representative and co-chair from 1981 to 2000, the Fox Canyon Groundwather Management Agency Chair from 1982 to 2003 and Southern California Association of Government member and president since 1981, many other chair, co-chairships and member of numerous boards and agencies in California.

Supervisor John Flynn has had various public service experiences, community services and key accomplishments. He graduated from UCSB, Bachelor of Arts, Economics and Sociology and a Masters of Art and American History from Cal State Northridge.

Supervisor Flynn talked about the need for more integration for better services and trade in the region. He stressed the need for more trade for Ventura County because of the deep sea port in Ventura County which is less expensive and busy than San Pedro Port. Mr Flynn added that the income from agriculture brings about 1.8 billion dollars to Ventura Economy. Now with the change of demographics, Ventura County is hosting as much as 25% foreign born residents and he added that needs more tolerance moreover respect for the diversity of cultures. Because in the early part of the 19th century, America experienced this kind of hardship when people of Irish descent migrated from Ireland in large numbers to various cities in the United States , some shops bore the sign of intolerance towards them. Supervisor Flynn finished by saying that the government at every level and the law enforcement officials are doing whatever they can to have a more respectful society towards one another in the form of trainings and lectures.
