The Pacifica Institute successfully hosted an enriching weekend retreat featuring renowned scholar Dr. Mark Juergensmeyer at the scenic Lake Arrowhead Retreat Center. Held from May 31 to June 1, 2025, the event brought together participants for an in-depth exploration of the complex relationship between religion and violence.
The retreat began on Saturday afternoon with check-in at 2:30 PM, followed by a session led by Dr. Juergensmeyer from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Drawing from decades of research and firsthand interviews with members of militant movements worldwide, Dr. Juergensmeyer provided deep insight into the causes and dynamics of religious violence. His thought-provoking presentation fostered rich conversation and reflection among attendees.
A book signing took place at 5 PM, giving participants a chance to engage personally with Dr. Juergensmeyer and his work. The day concluded with a wrap-up session, a shared dinner at 6:00 PM, and an intimate fireside chat at 9:00 PM, where participants continued their dialogue in a relaxed and reflective setting.
On Sunday, June 1, attendees gathered for breakfast at 10:00 AM before checking out at 11:00 AM, closing a meaningful weekend of scholarship, community, and dialogue.
