International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day Celebration” was organized by Pacifica Institute and UNA-OC collectively and took place on Sunday, March 20th, 2022, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Many women were invited from different racial and professional backgrounds. Tickets were sold for $20, and all proceed were donated to Embrace Relief (the link is below) to support Afghan girls to continue their education. Women-owned small businesses were allowed to display and sell their products and they also donated a small portion of their total earnings to the same link. Sheila Cook gave the opening speech, followed by a big brunch.

The keynote speech was given by Dr. Sophia Pandya, a professor at CSULB, and she talked about the “Women in War,” emphasizing how Afghanistan has changed over the past twenty years, evidenced by many statistical facts. The program was followed by a live connection with Afghanistan, where a young lady gave a presentation and explained the Afghan girls’ current situations, including her own stories. There were many touching moments where all the guests became one. After closing remarks, the event has ended with a circle dance and Turkish coffee was served to the guests. Overall, the Women’s Day celebration became an event where hearts filled with support, mercy, and joy.”
