Pacifica Institute was honored to host a heartfelt Celebration of Life for Bernadette Skubik, beloved wife of Dr. Daniel Skubik, a valued board member of Pacifica Institute and a dear friend of our community for many years.
The gathering brought together friends and community members to remember Bernadette’s beautiful heart, her deep faith, her kindness, and the sincere friendships she built across communities. Along with friends who participated in person, several guests joined the program online, including Hakan Yeşilova, Editor-in-Chief of The Fountain magazine, and two former Ph.D. students from UC Riverside who met Daniel and Bernadette for the first time through friends in the Hizmet community.
Throughout the program, participants shared memories, reflections, prayers, and words of gratitude for Bernadette’s life. Her gentle spirit, compassion, and openness to friendship left a lasting impression on everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
Dr. Daniel Skubik shared the following message in memory of his beloved wife:
“We remember with loving thanksgiving the life of my dear wife and sister, Bernadette Skubik. We were married for 51 years and I am grateful to God for the time we shared together. She was a precious, faithful and spirit-filled soul; someone who knew no strangers, only friends she had not yet met. The Lord’s light shone through her for a time, and the brevity of her life reminds us too of our own mortality. I am glad so many were able to attend the celebration, and had opportunity to take away a memento by which to remember her. May the Only Holy One grant us courage to live our remaining days as did she, with an eye always on Him, seeking the good of one another.”
