A night of remembrance and reconciliation (September 11th, 2011)

 

A night of remembrance and reconciliation of 9/11 victims and a Lecture Panel organized by Pacifica Institute and co-sponsored Fountain Magazine.

 

The lecture moderated by Patrick Drinan, a Professor from USD, Political Science and International Relations. Panel Speakers were Michael Provence, Associate Professor, Department of History at UCSD and Ahmet Kuru, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science at SDSU.

 

The event started with a moment of silence and then History Professor from UCSD Michael Provence talked about the significance of post 9/11 developments. Dr Michael Provence outlined a number of misconceptions portrayed on media about 9/11 and its consequences. Professor Michael Provence discussed this horrible incident by elaborating prior and post 9/11 attack development within angle of different conspiracy theory.

 

Professor Provence stated that Mastermind of 9/11 attack did not have any ground in any Muslim countries, and he said that he met many influential groups and Muslim clerics in the Middle east and in Muslim Countries , denouncing these terrorist attacks, but their voices never heard from Western world.

 

Ahmet Kuru, Political Science Professor from SDSU talked about 9/11 attack and its effect in whole world. Professor Kuru stated that this type of terrorist activities should not be associated with any religion and it’s well-known that Islam clearly forbids killing a person and even suicide is forbidden itself in Islam.

 

Professor Fred Randel from UCSD made a conclusion for the lecture-panel, and Dr Randel expressed his admiration towards Pacifica Institute for making very important dialog efforts in our society.

 

At the end of the event, a PhD student, Suayb Aslan from UCSD recited a prayer for peace and victims of 9/11 attack.

 

Pacifica Institute San Diego branch participated in the San Diego Interfaith 9/11 Memorial& Concert which took place in San Diego Balboa Park. Pacifica Institute volunteers distributed baklava at the end of the event.
