Pacifica Institute hosted Evangelical Lutheran Church in America- Southwest California Synod

Pacifica Institute was honored to host a fast breaking dinner with the members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Southwest Synod in Westwood on Thursday, August 28th- 2009. The introduction speech was made by Bishop Dean Nelson and then a brief information about the month of fasting and Ramadan was shared before the meal. Fasting continues for a month and according to solar calendar each year the start of the month of fasting shifts back 11 days. People who are able to fast except the pregnant, children and the sick fast from an hour and a half before sun rises until the sun goes down. The dinner consisted of traditional meals such as lentil soup, borek (cheese filled dough), dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and a dessert. After dinner, clergy from each dinner table made remarks about the iftar meal and emphasized the significance of the dialog among religious communities in Los Angeles. Bishop Nelson added his closing remarks and wished Pacifica Institute the very best in its future endeavors.
